Cartier panther existed before it had a body, first appearing in 1914 through diamonds and black onyx arranged to suggest the markings of its coat. Under Jeanne Toussaint, the Maison’s director of fine jewellery from 1933, the animal later became sculptural, and Double Panthère continues that history by bringing two feline heads together across the wrist.

This meeting shapes a series of balanced compositions, where the model shares the frame with her shadow, the rounded form of her hair follows the circle of light behind her, and black clothing divides the white background.

The symmetry is never exact, allowing each side to keep its own shape while remaining connected to the other, just like the two panthers across the wrist.
