  • Cartier LOVE: A Story of Connection, Told in Gold

A single glance is at the heart of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus may lead his wife out of the underworld, provided he does not look back. When Auguste Rodin interpreted the myth in marble in 1893, he chose the moment before that fateful turn, holding the lovers between closeness and separation.

For A7, it is less the tragedy that interests us than the impulse behind it, the desire to see someone even when you know they are there, and the weight we give to the smallest gestures.

In 1969, Aldo Cipullo made exposed screws the defining feature of the Cartier LOVE bracelet, bringing an industrial fastening into fine jewellery. The screws were functional, and the original design was intended to be fastened by another person using a special screwdriver. An ordinary mechanical detail became closely associated with the idea of attachment.

The new collection carries the same motif across articulated gold links and matching rings. The bracelet moves with the wrist, and a concealed clasp means it can be fastened alone. Several bracelets can also be linked together, which brings the story back to attachment.
